What are Storage Tanks

 What are Storage Tanks

Tanks are used to hold liquid, high volatile products solids etc. example crude oil, Diesel fuel, Chemicals, Lubricants and water.

Spheres and spheroids are used to store volatile products like butane and pentane.

Pressure vessel is vessels, which hold pressure above 14.99PSI

Strong foundation should be there to support weight. Since settling into the ground causes cracks that allow leakage and spills.

Drainage system should be clear to avoid flooding inside.

Firewalls are provided to protect against fire due to overflow, leakages etc and proper spacing between each other.

TYPES OF STORAGE TANKS

  • Cone roof
  • Floating roof tanks
  • Process vessels
  • Spheres and spheroids.

Cone roof – They are used to store nonvolatile, high flash stocks. (Need high temperature to burn). When the temperature raises during hot days vapor escapes through vent and during cold season it will pull back.if, high volatile is there will be loss of stock, air pollution and fire hazards.

Floating roof tanks-Which hold high stock that, are volatile and higher pressure than cone roof like crude oil, gasoline, naphta etc.

The roof will move up and down as the level changes since there is no vapor space and there is less evaporation.

Further classified as

  • Pan roof tank
  • Pantoon roof tank
  • Double deck roof tank.

Pressure storage vessels

To store high volatile like Hydro carbon etc

Spheres

SPHERES are used to store high volatile and high pressure products.

Spheroids

SPHEROIDS are used to store moderate pressure and volatile products.

Maintenance of Tanks.

Storage tanks require periodic inspections, cleanings, and maintenance to maintain proper water quality as well as longevity of the equipment. Depending on location, conditions, and type of tank , inspections should be performed every one, three, or five years.Maintenance should be performed based on inspection findings

Repairs

Repair works should be carried out as per safety and maintenance procedures. During storage tank maintenance areas in need of repair are identified. Repair solutions are implemented to improve tank eliminate further damage, and extend equipment service life.
